Because it is a no loss position for them. They likely have completely free hold positions. Potentially not making millions is a different proposition than potentially losing hundreds of thousands.
While you still need some belief in the tech, you need a lot less and probably even less in management...because if it is revolutionary it makes millions, if it's not or DM blows it, well you've not really lost anything.
The assymetry is still there, so if you don't really stand to lose anything then you hold....as JD is doing. If you stand to lose material amounts, well then your scrutiny of the company tends to increase.
