They could, but it would come at a very high price. There will be many other companies that would love to have a technology that could give them a market dominance similar to that enjoyed by DRAM manufacturers.

Buying it just to sit on it is also a very risky strategy. Nobody knows what new tech similar or better than 4DS is around the corner. Whoever buys it will likely want to get it out there quickly to recover purchase cost, go for mass adoption, make it the ‘standard’ and very quickly make it hard to replace.

DRAM could very quickly be on the way out the door for applications that require what DRAM can’t offer ….. other applications will follow very soon afterwards as systems need replacing / upgrading.

Who knows what sort of profit runway a buyer may have to recover costs. Could we see another tech (hopefully 4DS) that can dominate like DRAM for 30 or 40 years. That’s what a buyer must also consider.

Is it getting more difficult to improve on technology as we get closer to the limits of physics ??? How does that factor in with the risk of 4DS being overtaken by a superior memory technology.

I’m glad i’m not making those decisions or writing the cheque for the purchase.
