Anobit does continue to operate as a subsidiary of Apple though. So, its a complicated comparison with a few moving parts. A portion of the cost of that takeover would have been to secure the Anobit brain trust, so research continuity may figure into negotiations but I had the impression that GA and the technical team would hand things over neat when the sale concludes. However, you would think a breakthrough new memory with performance characteristics of SCM would be worth substantially more than a proprietary controller for an existing memory.

Interestingly, the $589 million inflation adjusted buyout of Anobit corresponds pretty closely to the highest bonus tier for the sale of 4DS. So, if the board had calculated their own sale based on the likes of Anobit it may be that they set a hurdle they were pretty sure of clearing; $550+ million or 60+ cents a share.
