Let's use the fast forward button for the 4DS movie.

We are in September.
- The board announce that the mega bit chip works and the internal tests showed very good metrics.
- Megabit chips are send to interested large companies.

Then we wait.

The company said they have regular exchanges with potential clients. But we still wait.

What will happen to the share price if we wait six months with no news ?
Or with offers so low that the board doesn't want to disclose them to shareholders ?

And if we have to wait six, nine months without any offer, 4DS will need money.

Then what ?
Another CR with no other objective than having the necessary cash to wait for an offer ?
With all bidders knowing that they just have to wait to get the tech for peanuts.

In my opinion, this scenario will never occure.

As some posters here already said, your goal cannot be to be bought because if you choose that way, all the power is then in the hands of the buyer. He just have to wait.

So, the takeover scenario is not realistic unless we have a future without a takeover.

That's what I think the next step will be : to build a business that have a future even if 4DS or 4S' IP is not bought in the next few months.

This has been story of 4DS almost since the beginning.
Clients (most probably HGST) always wanted us to go a bit further.

- The fastest cell, then the more tunable cell, then the less costly array (3D stacking at the smallest possible node).

The former team, led by scientists, was happy to go that way, but the business model was flawed, and at some point even DM's rich friends would be tired to pour money in this endless research project.

That's when WvdH and KH took over (probably with JD's help).

Imo, when they'll have a working prototype in hand, this team will not just send it to clients and wait for the phone to ring.

They will use all their energy to put 4DS in a situation where it can wait for years and years.
And that means having a new viable project.

This is something the 4DS story teaches us : You can't wait for others.
You have to go your own way and make the pudding with the proof inside.

So my prefered scenario is the one where 4DS builds its own stand alone memory with some friends help.
(it could be some other component).

It is just an idea, but why not Exascend and Marvell ?
