You are right, Bfm, a lot of the commercially made ones are useless. Work mate years ago bought an aluminium one, made out of ali pipe 75mm. in diameter. fitted it , drove 30km,hit a big roo, and was towed home with the remains of his new bull-bar, radiator, fan assembly wrapped around his engine.And the bonnet tore up and smashed his windscreen. My serious working bullbars I make myself, put them out far enough so you can stand between it and the front of the vehicle, and make them strong enough to push-start a loaded truck. trouble is they are stronger than the chassis.(LOL).
