I once owned a Toyota 4runner, the first model with the solid front axle it was under powered but an unbelievable 4wd. I was on Stockton beach fishing for the night and silly me left the ignition on with the radio, which flattened the battery.
Next morning me and my mate decided to get it started by jacking up one side of the rear axle, wrapped a snatch strap around the rear lifted wheel, put it into low range third gear, while free wheeling the front hubs and run down the beach pulling the snatch strap and got it started.
It's amazing what sort of trouble you can get yourself out of when you stop and think. You probably wouldn't be ably to do that with a lot of the new 4wd's with auto and limited slip diffs.
