Hi oorain.
Both mazda BT50 and ford ranger, that have the turbo 5 cylinder have a major problem with the oil pump during an oil change. The oil pump looses prime, It is located up high behind the engine head. The dealers that service them must leave a small amount of old oil in them and replace the sump plug and put new oil in them as quickly as possible to avoid engine failure. It has court a lot of people and private mechanics out that try to change the oil. mazda tried to do a recall on this problem, but found out it was to expensive to fix.
You cannot go past toyota for a quality 4wd imo. My toyota landcruiser has 695,000 kilometers and all i have replaced is a clutch and rear pinion seal. it does a lot of beach work for fishing.
