the numbers of unemployed are dodgy as.... Alan Kohler did the analysis and came up a minimum 15% unemployed.
its all to do with definitions of unemployment which is worked at least one hour in the last week and looking for work. those who don't have a job and are looking for work aren't counted. the under-employed aren't counted, the people who haver been classed as "no longer looking for work", i.e. the participation rate, has been falling by hundreds of thousands for months now.... why?
my guess is they've been kicked off Newstart.
