Their whole business plan is to use UCG on stranded coal reserves (uneconomic to mine). Relax, LNC have already demonstrated that Chinchilla has the right hydrogeological conditions to safely sustain UCG. Water quality monitoring will continue, as it should. If the CTL using UCG Syngas does not work, then they will focus on using the UCG Syngas for power generation. However, as QGC have already announced that they are halving their production because they believe the East coast of Australia is facing an Energy glut, it would be better if they can get the CTL demo plant working.

Given that LNC have already produced diesel using the Syngas that they took from Chinchilla I think the risks are reduced.
