I am not retired. When I said “If I held a stock…what I’d do” - that means it applies to me - not anyone else.
For example - if I were to have made large Capital gains in one particular year what I do is offset those against any capital losses to minimise the tax I have to pay on those gains at tax time.
The advantageous thing from my perspective about crystallising losses is that I can carry forward those losses indefinitely.
