I think Afterpay will end up being forced to do some kind of screening (the same way Certegy etc. screen), but I have no doubt they'll absorb that and charge forward because they now have brand recognition. They might restructure their fees and take a loss to gain market share (Uber), after which they'll be in a position to charge merchants a premium for being involved.

There are so many ways Afterpay can pivot here specifically because they've tapped into a dormant retail demographic nobody else has really succeeded in. The press and regulators can rail all they want but any steps to limit Afterpay's appeal to consumers will be met harshly by the public.

Fork me really, if ure poor, frikking get better at managing ur finances, not being stupid and go out blow $1000 on drinks, clothes, entertainment and vanity items. Thats frikking stupidity not poor.

Poor is frikking born in africa into a family of 10 siblings and on verge of starvation, thats poor. Forking hell buying with afterpay and late on payment. No frikking sympathy for such morons
