SHANXI, CHINA: China is planning to start up 50 biomass power plants in various provinces around the country. China's Wuhan Kaidi Electric Power Engineering Co. Ltd. is building the facilities, while U.S.-based GE Energy will provide control systems for the 50 new plants.
The coal-rich Shanxi province of China will host 14 biomass-fueled power plants by 2012. The plants in Shanxi province will be equipped to produce 924 million kWh per year using 1.05 million tons of agricultural waste and wood trimmings. Thirteen of the 14 plants will increase their total capacity to 1.78 billion kWh a year, about 0.6 per cent of Shanxi's power consumption.
