PS there are many measures of profit. APT is profitable on like for like basis. IF APT stopped growing it would vomit cash everywhere. APT chooses to reinvest what is called free cash flow into growth.
If you have one brickie working for you, you can make a profit or hire ten more brickies. then you pay ten recruitment fees, you need 5 company utes, you need about 50 company t shirts and so on, and you make no profit but your company grew 10X so next month, your gonna make a PROFIT in accrued accounting but a negative cash flow as the clients haven't paid yet, so 90 days latter a boat load of cash comes in, but now you just hired 100 brickies so no cash flow profit, because 100 recruitment fees 50 company uets 500 company T shirts. Now if you like for the sake of example you can say 'those T shirts are capital items' we made a profit, OK, well done, pay tax. OR you can say those T shirts are expensable items and we did NOT make a profit. come to think of it lets find a way to expense those utes via an operating lease vis a finance lease and we are making a tax loss, claim back some GST etc, while our business is growing 100X per year.... there is a difference between smart and glory seeking. A lot of very wealthy people got wealthy by making losses, via a detailed understanding of and compliance with complex tax rules / accounting rules. Do not watch football it is robbing you of your time. Study tax. always comply with all the rules. If the tax law says PAYG earning $250K PA = $XXX tax and selling some shares and making $250K PA = $X tax. you can cry and protest and march up and down the street or you can become an investor.
