Paladin Energy Ltd may bring in a strategic partner to help develop its Valhalla/Skal uranium project in Queensland, after Premier Campbell Newman overturned a state ban on mining the nuclear fuel, according to The Australian Financial Review.

Paladin chief executive John Borshoff welcomed Mr Newman's decision, which breaths new life into Valhalla/Skal – one of the most advanced uranium projects in the state.

"We’ve always said we’d look at getting partners to come in with us because we own 100 per cent of these things,” Mr Borshoff said.

“We’d use it as a means of divesting of some collateral, [getting] a cash injection and moving these projects ahead. That’s what it opens up for us."

Mr Borshoff said his company would examine partnerships over the next six months, although it will likely take at least until the end of the decade for Queensland to have a fully operational uranium mine.
