I haven't read 50 shades of grey, but I devour the ASX output of UOS in the same way repressed women the world over eat up the book. I was at Costco on Saturday and there were over 3000 copies, so it is pretty popular!
In any case, I keep copies of UOS reports saved in .pdf format to the desktops of all PC's I use, and when I've had a bad day, I read back through a few & it picks me up (like Stan when he listens to Eminem!).
I first bought UOS after the equivalent 4D was released in 2009. I had been following their reports for about 18 months and had spent all that time trying to convince myself it could not be so. At that report date, the NTA per share was 59.06c & I paid the princely sum of 23 cps for my purchase (38.9% of NTA). In the 3 subsequent years I have received 14c in dividends and capital returns and those shares are now backed by an NTA of 94.59 cps (and a 40.5c share price). If I add back in the 14c, they have compounded NTA at 22.9%, based on the time value of the money received, the IRR is over 25% per annum. My return has been about 35 or 40% per annum on that purchase in a period when the market has trodden water, you understand my enamour... Today the last traded price (40.5c) is 42.8% of the current NTA, scarcely higher than my original purchase.
I keep expecting the rate will slow down, but between the 2011 4E & the one released yesterday, NTA has grown from 89.31cps to 94.59cps with 10cps in dividends & capital returns. Somehow, while sitting on a $300m cash pile, UOS grew NTA at 17.1% & recent sales indicate the underlying asset values are conservatively calculated.
After reading that report, I feel good, I may even may a little purchase in the next few weeks to celebrate - Eternalgrowth
