Yes, he is nuts. I can't believe anyone could patent that system as a design without thinking about it first for a few minutes. It is similar (or the same?) to Nikola Tesla's original design which has fluids going up and down the same hole so that heat is conducted between the two pipes (a short circuit effect). Secondly, where is the heat supposed to come from in the long term when the rock immediately around the boiler cools? Thirdly, it must be wonderful to do maintenance on a generator that is at the bottom of a hot well. (Only physically small technicians need apply.) In EGS the intention is to extract heat from about 5 square kilometers of rock interface. Less for HSA.
