I was perusing here during a break from writing my thesis about geothermal energy development. My research indicates that the treasury modelling is extremely dependent on continued government support for geothermal through to 2050, probably in the form of grants.
A lot of the changes in regulatory frameworks that need to happen for geothermal (or nuclear) to replace coal on the scale described are not in place, and grant money is particularly susceptible to political will.
I believe the industry will succeed, but I would be careful about getting euphoric about the treasury predictions as it will depend heavily on politics.
