I use the bus service in Brisbane every now and then, and I can guarantee, about one in three trips will see some loser or losers say to the driver ‘I don’t have any money’ or some such excuse and get a free ride. Most common to get these types jump on in Brunswick Street the Valley (last week’s example had a skateboard under his arm).
Drivers just wave them on board. I guess they don’t want to get punched or stabbed, so probably a wise decision on their part. Wouldn’t be surprised if there was some directive to not turn them away, given the possible risks to driver safety.
So whether the price of the trip is $5 or 50c, price is irrelevant for that particular cohort.
