7th Aug 1974 joint sitting of parliament under Whitlam. Whitlams election platform was buying back the farm, buying back foreign owned resources over turning the colony economy in favour of citizens.
TLDW, it didn't happen. The Empire (Crown/CIA) concocted a financial scandal and effected a soft coup. End result Aust is still a colony, selling its resources cheap unallowed to truly develop with any sovereignty and its maintained by all sides of current politics.
