The Yanks have spent their capital and wasted the massive good will they had 50yrs ago. Gee! Even I liked 'em then.

The Pilgrims settled a land of natural wealth which can only be dreamed of, then and now. But their descendants have killed the millions of bison, the untold millions of pidgeons which, we are told, darkened the sky when they took flight. The furs the trappers took by the millions and seals in the north and eventually gold in California and Alaska made America the richest, wildest frontier known.

The farmers and ranchers could spread over millions of sq miles of fertile plain, with great rivers to carry their barges.

All these people with plenty of produce but no markets were all the rail barons needed to begin their dynastys. So the great industrial era was born.

The greatest treasure of all was cheap, easy, top quality oil.

All they have now is the broad acre farming which needs precious water and fertiliser to remain viable and a clapped out oil industry which peaked (was that in the '80s?)

The less said about having wasted their political capital, the better.
