One of my favorite videos is this one.
There is a point where Elon Musk discusses the cost of the components of the battery.
His main point is that if you could buy all the components of a battery the cost is quite cheap.
After all the cost of lithium in a phone is very cheap.
Chris Reed does a presentation along Anthony Tse's which I showed earlier that states lithium is such a small component of a battery that a phone only has about 50c worth so for that price to double or triple he hypothesises would it be unreasonable?
Would anyone mind a bump in the price to be $5 when that component is what makes or breaks the technology it lives within and there is no current alternative?
Returning to Elon's point, by way of the components of a battery being so cheap it would appear the real challenge to keep the cost down is how they are assembled.
