I understand that the research is aimed at a long term view by which time the lithium battery may not be the technology of choice.

Though it does indicate there will be significant pressure on demand if electric vehicles gain unexpected traction which is highly plausible.

I remember reading discussion in China as to what would occur if that kind of demand occurred and one point made was that if it did take off then maybe lithium could be restricted to specific applications, of which it could lead to price hikes whilst each company vy for access.
