The industry does not have to be small for that to essentially be the case. In fact, it is measurably anything but. The industry operates in all eight states and territories in almost a hundred regions across hundreds of thousands of hectares. Every year, the industry produces billions of litres of wine and consumes almost half as much. Every year, the industry contributes billions of dollars to the national GDP by providing a staple good (as recognised by the CPI), employment and tourism. In what way is it notoriously small?
