It's not lactose free at all and should not be consumed by people who are actually diagnosed as lactose intolerant.However many people assume that they are lactose intolerant without being diagnosed as such, because they have symptoms such as bloating etc. and figure that is the only cause.
The claim (whether one agrees or not) is that such symptoms are sometimes attributable to a difference in the protein composition of the milk rather than the presence of lactose.
