Such a bad move if at the same time offering to subsidise wages etc etc
The first thing people should use the funds for is bills, mortgage, rent
These pollies are simply flying blind they have very little clue and they are playing with fire on this
They should re iterate people's obligation to pay their due agreements no matter what even if it means dipping into savings after all isn't that what they are for ? Emergencies?
Is the govt now supposed to pay for that too ?
So if they can't be evicted for not paying do they still owe the rent in arrears ?
Maybe the smart thing to do would be for the govt simply to guarantee rent relief for every single rent payer in Australia rather than hand out wage subsidies.. much cheaper, keeps a roof over their heads and guarantees the integrity of the rental agreement for six months or so..
Waste of time warning landlords they cannot evict, just guarantee the payment, save the hassle
The stupid eviction law simply pits Landlord against Tenant
Tenant doesn't pay, Landlord has to do what ? Sit back and cover the loan repayments, expenses, ongoings with no income coming in ? Then the Landlord goes to the bank and says 'I have no income from the property, I can't pay the loan', then the bank goes to the Govt and says 'Mr Brown is defaulting on his loan, we want to record it against his credit file and sell the property'
Tenants already have significant rights in terms of notice required to terminate ..
The policy mix are coming thick and fast now and I just wonder where does it all end ?
Like I said, guarantee the rent instead of handing out freebies that will end up at Harvey Norman
