@beefarmer - as someone who has voted for both Libs and Lab in the past and getting thoroughly sick of my 'hero' cosying up to the establishment in his later years (as they all do, and - maybe - us, humble nobodies, would do the same . . . ) I got sick of him, also hanging on to power and not giving the genuinely talented guy by his side an earlier go - and giving his wife the flick etc. - he was a flawed man, but represented something distinctly 'Aussie' in more ways than many predecessors or the people coming after him.
I should say that on many occasions a PM would be seen - would have to be seen - being sociable, friendly etc. with all the power brokers around him - there would be photos available of all sorts of people in some public, social gathering . . . it does not prove anything.
