Houses are an ongoing liability.
Apart from ongoing property expenses - maintenance, replacement items etc.. how many property owners know for sure that their investment isn't being insidiously eaten away by unforeseens such as wood rot or termites ?
My brother in law had to pull down his beautiful Victorian House in Armadale due to extensive termite damage - he thought he had a good deal when he bought it (at auction) about 5 years ago... now he rues the day.
Termites and Wood Rot are at work - they don't care about "investments"... which are more like liabilities.
We have somehow been duped into thinking there's a land shortage - when have less than 1/10th of the population of the USA with more than 2x the USA's coastline.
