The other thing to consider in this whole rent save debate is that in allot of cases like in the 60 minutes story people rent places in a better area which they know they can't afford for lifestyle reasons. That is fine but to do that it will cost them more money in rent - as such how much are they really saving over buying in an area less desirable to them that they could afford to buy in? Many may have a great lifestyle now - but they may find they come a cropper later in life.
