The children especially will have their lives cut short; probably all by design, thanks to the super-elite who are aiming to reduce the world's population down to 500 million, which means only a twelth of the present population. They no longer need most of the people to maintain their current lifestyles. Automation is taking over and there is also plenty of research aimed at what people have termed trans humanism - basically part human - part bionically enhanced computer chipped serf.
Note the push throughout Western countries for euthanasia on demand. It will begin 'innocently enough', but before we are through it will become more a matter of 'duty' once you are no longer of 'use'. Belgium introduced euthanasia for children earlier this year.
As for the rest of the world wars and more wars are on order.
