as I've said many times, nuclear will eventually be necessary. as you now suggest, Aus should "play to its strengths" and that is renewable energy first. its this that is bringing down electricity costs to consumers and industries.

nuclear needs true bipartisan support if its to come to fruition. right now Dutton's proposal for discussion only, as its not a policy yet. simply a collection of statements without any research or planning.

so to Dutton's primary point: he is opening the matter for debate.

there no rush to get into nuclear. if they try to rush it many mistakes through inadequate understanding and planning will become the problem.

nuclear energy needs agreement between federal and states and councils, this might take a decade to achieve, but Dutton could have achieved this before his announcement if he'd had the foresight and genuine desire for genuine, apolitical discussion.

but by saying "we will build 7 nuclear plants" around the country, he's neglected all sensible preparatory discussions and it reads like he will force states and councils to accept nuclear regardless of public, corporate and governance disagreement.

this is a 'plan to fail' plan.

A few problems there......

As AEMO says the transition to renewables is failing, we are destroying the countryside and falling far short of the energy needed.

A statement that other renewable fans have made, but then why is everybody's energy costs skyrocketing?

If it is true that renewables are the cheapest form of energy, what is also true that to integrate it into the grid it requires thousands of kilometers of transmission lines to gather it.
Then $billions worth of batteries and dams to store it.
Then all the renewables need to be backed up by gas peaking generators for when wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine and the batteries are flat.
By the time you put it all together the cost is multiple times higher than alternative generation sources.

It is painfully obvious that logic is not a strong point with the political left .
