Too much cash in the system - and funds looking to get it invested pre eofy. Banks appear to be a safe haven and pay a pretty good return even at current prices. Only reason I can see for the spark up at this time of year. Also big volumes of stocks being traded and maybe some repayment of shorting indicated by the number of cross trades each day.
