66,400,000 articles for looksmart?

    Overnight, I posted (privately), that:

Today, I had recorded the number of articles indexed within Google, as follows:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 51,000,000 from www.findarticles.com

    And, just now:

    Results 1 - 10 of about 66,400,000 from www.findarticles.com

Yet, currently (as now), just 15,200,000 are shown to be indexted. Why? I suggest a lot of 'behind the scenes' work is going on.

    A newscorp involvement for Looksmart?

I'm still very keen on this being announced, very soon. A minimum "double" in the shareprice "value" is assured, should this be the case. I have put my final 'Comment' for this to happen, here on the Media Stock Blog.

A check of Newscorps United Kingdom newspapers show some 17.5M articles as listed within FindArticles and some are (already) showing, to be in the Looksmart Verticals, it appears. (Yet Google is currently showing, only 15.2M articles, as now being listed!!??).

Results 1 - 10 of about 7,910,000 for FindArticles in News of the world

Results 1 - 10 of about 3,030,000 for FindArticles in The Sun (And indexed within Verticals, it appears?)

Results 1 - 10 of about 4,820,000 for FindArticles in The Times - (And indexed within Verticals, it appears?)

I find it all interesting and certainly, very fascinating!!

I got to buy a copy of yesterday's "Fin" (The Australian Financial Review) & noted the mention of a Looksmart partner, The NY Times' "TimeSelect" within the article, "Newspapers rise to challenge of the Internet".

It was an excellent read and John Hartigan, chairman and chief Executive of News Limited (who control more than 70% of newspapers here in OZ) was quoted here, within this passage:

Next month News Limited will start relaunching it's Australian newspapers' websites, introducing new interactive features and a new look.

"It's one of the most exciting things we've done in the past couple of years," Hartigan says.

"We're adding more resourses, with up to 10 journalists working on some of the mastheads' sites. They will be really high quality sites, with lots of interactivity, and will compliment the newspapers very, very strongly".

Hartigan agrees that newspaper companies have not done enough to distribute their content through the Internet, mobile phones, personal digital assistants and so on. But he argues that will change as faster broadband internet networks are rolled out.

"That is the next big battleground, because broadband offers so many opportunities," he says.

"That's when news and content needs to be totally repurposed."

So, whatever anyone wants to make of that, (all, the above), so be it!! I also picked up a couple of statements off their sites that may ,or, may not be of significance ... that include:

< NewsStand is currently working with more than 200 newspaper and magazine publishers from around the world, providing their readers with unparalleled selection and availability.>

    And ....

< Newstext contains nearly 30 million articles from 150 News Corporation newspapers worldwide, and is updated daily. Most of the newspapers are published in Australia.>

But readers should make up their own minds. I know where my money is!!

    Go LOOK !!

    :)
