While this is an FY 22 (not FY 23) video shot in April 2022, it's of a premium Melbourne to Perth Pacific National intermodal train known as the 'Toll train':



This fast Friday departure from Melbourne's Dynon railyard at 1330 hours in the early afternoon usually arrives Perth's Kewdale by late on Sunday afternoon in plenty of time for stock to be at warehouses early on Monday morning.

Gheringhap is 83 rail kilometres from Melbourne, past North Geelong on teh way to Adelaide via Cressy, Ararat and Horsham.

Great to see nine LAU railable containers among the 64 wagons. This train usually attaches extra loading in Adelaide, as between Melbourne and Adelaide it's usually only 60-70 wagons, well below maximum permitted length of 1800 metres.

Unless things change when LAU discloses its FY 22 results, to date LAU's increased foray into rail freight has been very profitable at a fortuitous time, given problems with road and air freight, some of which such as fewer passenger flights (meaning less capacity in aircraft holds for perishable produce) have not been of LAU's making.
