Seven & I Holdings won the auction.
Ampol and a US PE firm were the underbidders.
I'm sure Ampol would have turned it into a good acquisition, but it would be a big distraction and would have caused risks around the ACCC.
Frees up a lot of cash for future dividends.
Congrats to the Ampol management team for taking a look, but also knowing when to pull back from a bid. That's not an easy skill.
I'd expect a slight relief rally, but it would have probably dropped if they did buy it.
