Why should Singapore Airlines get that special right? They are Singapore government owned as is Emirates, and they are subsidised! The US would never give Qantas such a right to fly from Los Angeles to London.
The way airlines work is you have trade agreements with the country you fly to i.e. therefore US airlines can fly direct to Australia and vice versa. Singapore airlines are forced to go through Singapore.
If we don't want a national airline then the government should just say so, remove the Austrlian shareholder limit and start flogging it.
I am sick of the left wing idiots always critiscising Qantas who pay better than most other airlines. And that includes Virgin Blue.
