Qantas has done well to delay it for as long as possible. Aus have it really really good in terms of covid despite the Victoria situation but border closures for political brownie points are partially to blame. If this is Europe, 40% of planes would have been flying at the start of June.
The public will complain if the government threw money at them even if they were to own a share. At that same time they think companies may avoid mass redundancies during a pandemic. Just look at the rest of the airline companies around the world. Qantas has been well run and profitable for a reason but a pandemic and delayed border openings is not their doing.
