'We incurred a delay in full production due to the fact we have developed a more efficient
process over the past few months.
We expect production of lithium carbonate to be about 9,000 tonnes per annum by July 2009
and 17,000 at July 2010. However there is a float of about 3 months either side which depends
on financing, deliveries, weather, staff availability, government permitting, etc.'
'a. We are already the highest purity producer on what is known as the first wash - but the
real test is the recovery - and we are constantly exceeding 80% which is unheard of in
the industry. Most get 65% if they are lucky using old technology and chemistry.
b. Uses are being commercialised and increased everyday for higher purity. I heard the
Chinese suppliers were in hot water due to metal contamination and it explains why the
market price dropped for three months last year - they obviously dumped it at about
$5,000 a tonne.
c. I know a lot about patent law and processes and it is very inexpensive for the first two
years while the PCT process goes through - then it gets expensive because each country
has to examine the patent - but there are short cuts and in the scheme of things when
the patents are granted. It will be less than 1% of our capex.
d. I thought this was obvious. We can charge the Chinese and others a royalty fee for
using our process - especially the Bolivians if and when they get into production.'
