It’s reasonably easy to identity job requirements in these roles and there is pretty good consistency across multiple job analyst inputs and assessors. Stats helps in the process and as you pointed out the range of views about what makes a good president or politician is likely to vary widely. But I’d also think that a skilled job analyst could sort out critical factors for your run of the mill democracy But - and it’d is my proviso - in a corrupt system, a puppet kingdom or a non democratic nation the requirements are likely to differ widely. as to your comment that nothing will weed out unsuitable candidates - I know that - decades dealing with these sort of issues and an understanding of predictive validity says exactly that. See my reference to false positives and false negatives. There is no system that is perfect but chances can be improved by layering different assessment techniques and is age unbiased. Well it can’t be by definition because it is simply apply a broad brush criterion that has nothing to do will ability to do the job and is inherently based on a supposition and generalisation. That’s the reason that age as a criterion for selection to a job is regarded as discriminatory

Hi Parsifal, So , as a followup to your argument. A 14 year old ok for your long haul pilot or MP, provided he/she passed your test? Plus how often do you test your 80 year old. Keep in mind , the possibility of deterioration or a medical incident are greater as you get older for any subsequent period. ie , incidence of a stroke between 80 and 82 greater than 50 to 52. PS, absolutely discrimination There will be old people that will miss out on some life choices , mmnnn, I should care more about that. Maybe my frontal lobe shrinkage reducing my empathy levels ?
