I worry for the future of these children, given the Australian governments track record of caring for disadvantaged children.
I read a report in relation to the Federal governments intervention strategy in the Northern Territory. this was commenced under Howard and it was supposed to protect aboriginal children from neglect and abuse.
But, look what has happened to that scheme. There are now more Darwin based public servants "administering" the intervention, than there actually is workers at the coal face delivering the services. Outrageous!!!!
Now we have 700 children from overseas in our care and in detention. Basically, when it comes to service delivery, anything that government departments touch, generally ends in cost blow outs and poor outcomes.
cheers.
