What has been keeping Aus from copping similar figures, pro-rata, or worse is a) the good sense of Govts to follow medical advice, b) the unity of Govts (well... ok - they bicker) and c) the consequent compliance of the population.

In the US you have politicising of the pandemic where Dem and Rep fight each other for fair treatment by the WH, POTUS telling lies and making stupid thought bubble announcements about "miracle cure" and other such BS and contradicting medical advice and consequently the US population are divided by wild ideas vs. appropriate management of the infection.

@db76, you've got to take this seriously and listen to qualified experts mate... if you go off thinking "its just another flu" you'l be suicidal and potentially homicidal to those around you.

Now please recant that political finish... you know you must be on the losing end when Andrews has over 55% support.

I just read that fatality rate is 0.6% which is close to what I thought months ago due to cases not being identified.

However that doesn't mean it is 6 times worse than the flu at 0.1% for the same reason. How many cases of seasonal flu are never identified, lots and lots.

When I think of Covid I think roughly 10 times more fatalities than normal flu, 10 times more contagious. 5 times more serious long term effects than fatalities.

I think 10% end up in hospitals, 2-3% on life support for weeks, 0.5 % fatalities.

You can argue my figures are low, but that's is my own rough guide.

Why would anyone want to risk that? Follow the health advices, don't risk getting it, don't pass it on.

Hope for a vaccine or effective treatment soon.
