"Fares for public transport in New South Wales are failing to keep pace with the cost of providing these services. Rail tickets will provide just 23 per cent of CityRail's expenses in 2007-08, according to the state Budget. The Government wants to implement a simple ticketing system featuring a rechargeable card being developed by Perth-based ERG. However, the system has been delayed in field trials, and it was originally scheduled to be in place for the 2000 Olympic Games. The state's 2007 Budget allocated another $A70.3m towards the system's development.
