Baghdad carbomb 'kills 70'

A CAR bomb went off today in a Shiite district of Baghdad killing at least 73 people and wounding 109, a security official said, giving figures obtained from five hospitals.

Reuters, however, quoted police as saying the number of dead was 40, with 100 wounded.
The car was driven by a suicide bomber who drove at speed into a group of construction workers waiting on Uruba square, in the Kazimiyah district, to be hired for daily work.

The attack took place at around 7am local time as people were on their way to work.
