Green Rock Energy has applied for a $7 million
grant for its Perth Urban Geothermal Energy
Project under the Federal Government’s
Geothermal Drilling Program.

This Project is located within Permit GEP
1 which is held jointly by Green Rock Energy
and UWA and covers 143 km2 of the Perth
Metropolitan Area, including UWA’s Crawley
Campus. It is designed to replace a significant
portion of the UWA’s Crawley Campus’
electricity powered compression chillers (that
produce cold water for air-conditioning) with
geothermal powered absorption chillers.

The GDP has been set up by the Commonwealth Government to assist companies to develop geothermal energy by supporting proof-of-concept projects. The GDP is a competitive merit based program provided as a dollar-for-dollar subsidy, capped at $7 million per proof-of-concept project.
