    I vaguely remember BOMDAS / BODMAS from the last millennium. I recall some confusion over the order of D & M.

    Can we assume an implied * between 2 and (2+2) ? So, which comes first M or D?

    I'd go with adjacency to the brackets & do M then D so 2 * (2+2) = 8 -> answer = 1.

    However, Excel gives equal precedence to M & D so it gets 16 by then going left to right !
