So something I don't get (speaking as an amateur when it comes to these things). We've been taught in high school that you can take a common multiple out of something in brackets, e.g. you can factor (4+4) as 2(2+2). So if this is correct, why isn't it the case that 8 ÷ 2(2+2) the same as 8 ÷ (4+4) which is clearly 1? I guess what I'm saying is how can the answer be 16 and what we've been taught about taking a common factor out of brackets both be correct?
(I knew I shouldn't have opened this thread, now this is going to bother me all night lol)
