Break even that is very good. Have you entered all your transaction into an annualized gain program and figured out when you will be even with the S&P. Earning a 100% over 20 years is not the same as earning 100% over 2 years. Double always sounds good in a bar. About 30 years ago I was talking to a broker who handled my companies IPO. He sold all options and grants for free. I told him I was doing great about the doubles and triples I had recently had. He asked for my records. Back then it meant giving him multiple 3 inch binders. He ran annualized gain for me for the last 5 years. Stocks held longer than five years were just entered with price on start date. I was shocked by how poorly I was doing. I now go out of my way not to worry about stocks that go up 2 to 5 X quickly but to worry about annualized gain. Spotting down trends and get rid of stock quickly. Have I missed some real big gainers? Yes I have and Lynas runup from AUD 1.00 was one of them, Over all i beat the S&P 500 buy a little every year, including all fees, and that is fine with me.
