In addittion to the piping of water from Tassie to Vic I also like the idea of crating a large wetland somewhere north of the divide using Melbournes treated sewage water, piping it about 100km north of the Werribee treatment plant.
So piping from Tassie allows more water to be offered back into the Murray and so would treated water pumped over the divide.
It would seem there could be exceptional economic benefits well beyond just suring up Melbournes water supply, the north-central, north west of Vic and even South Aus could see agricultural, enviromental flows, tourism and water security benefits.
Makes the $20bill on a desal plant look like a real waste and born of poor vision imo.
