Surely a smarter system would be to use your renewables as your main thrust and then use some rapid response supplement if and when you need it??

It’s exactly how remote systems work now - you use solar and maybe wind and batteries

and if the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow - you start the genny

it’d be totally insane to do it the other way round
