Here’s an estimate of full life cycle costs per kWh produced. Although wind and solar are the cheapest, they can’t produce electricity when you need it. Wind farms on average spend about 70% of the time not producing power. Solar isn’t much better, although it’s predictable (about 30% of max output when overcast), it doesn’t align with peak evening demand. Building significant battery storage can mitigate this disadvantage, whilst still being cheaper than nuclear.
