8IP is a specialist manager based in Sydney that is  owned by its staff. Established in 2009, 8IP is focused on managing equity portfolios for retail and institutional investors, including a specific capability managing portfolios of Australian small companies securities.

At 8IP, we have a very clear focus to deliver strong investment performance to our investors. We are true stock pickers who use bottom-up, fundamental research to construct high-conviction, long-term portfolios.

8IP manages in excess of A$200m focused on ASX listed small companies on behalf of institutions, high net worth individuals and a listed investment company. The portfolios are managed by Kerry Series and Stephen Walsh, both experienced equity investors.

This month we highlight two companies that we hold in the 8IP Australian Equity Impact Fund (“Fund”) as the Fund provided (or commited to provide) new equity capital to them during the June quarter. Since inception in February, the Fund has participated in new equity issues for four companies, demonstrating our commitment to invest in the acceleration of these impactful companies.

Vivid Technology (“Vivid”). Vivid provides energy efficient lighting systems to industrial, commercial, and infrastructure businesses, achieving an energy reduction of over 80% through their innovative technology. Vivid has worked with the CSIRO in advancing materials science to achieve new manufacturing materials and methods.The company also owns a stake in New CO2 Fuels which has an early stage technology to convert industrial waste (CO2) into a clean synthetic fuel (Syngas) with a pilot plant under development. The pilot plant has the equivalent CO2 conversion capability as 6,000 trees. The company is raising $5m in new equity at 4.5c to fund growth initiatives following demand for lighting systems from large companies, such as Goodman Group and Coca-Cola Amatil.
